BISON MACHINE Michigan Heavy Rockers Sign To Small Stone; New Album Coming Soon + Burnin’ Turf II Fest To Be Held June 3rd

Michigan heavy rockers BISON MACHINE have signed to American heavy rock institution Small Stone Records. The Hamtramck-based volume dealers have been on a this-time-it’s-personal quest to hand-deliver their riffs across the country since the 2015 release of their debut album, Hoarfrost, on Kozmik Artifactz, and with tours throughout the US under their belt, they’re ready to take their game to the proverbial next level.

BISON MACHINE is currently preparing a new album for release later this year as their Small Stone debut. They will enter Rustbelt Studios (Five Horse Johnson, Halfway to Gone, Novadriver) later this Summer to record.

“It’s amazing,” enthuses BISON MACHINE bassist Anthony Franchina about the signing. “Small Stone has released some of my favorite records, from Sasquatch to Greenleaf to Lo-Pan, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Scott [Hamilton] on our next record, which is going to completely blow away everything we’ve done before. We’ll be hitting the road too, so keep an eye out!”

In addition to working on their next LP, the members of BISON MACHINE are involved in organizing the Burnin’ Turf festival, which is set for June 3rd at the Parisville Saloon in Ruth, Michigan with a lineup featuring BISON MACHINE, Wild Savages, Dead Feathers, BoneHawk, Red Stone Souls, Rip VanRipper, and Gear Jammer, as well as chopper games, raffle prizes, van and tank lettering by Zak Warmann of Detroit Sign Painters, camping, DJ Smoak (Loy Smoak Jr.) all the way from San Antonio, bonfires, and of course, plenty of beer. Ticket presales are available at THIS LOCATION.

“I can’t wait to hear what BISON MACHINE bring to this next record,” says Scott Hamilton of Small Stone Records. “They’ve been unstoppable on tour for the last couple years and I’m thrilled to welcome them into the Small Stone fold representing the next generation of great American heavy rock and roll.”

BISON MACHINE released their latest single, “Cloak And Bones,” last year. A video for the track is playing now at THIS LOCATION.

Stay tuned for more on BISON MACHINE, Burnin Turf II, and the new album in the months ahead. [Words by JJ Koczan/The Obelisk]

IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE: Psychedelic Space Rock Instrumentalists Kick Off New Year Mini-Tour Tonight

“There are certain kinds of psychic transport only attainable by lingering on a drone or a single pattern long after the modern mind has expressed its desire to move along, and that place is where
INN:IS lives but this band has become nothing short of masterful at the art of the narrative arc as well…” — The Hudson Valley Almanac Weekly

Dark psychedelic space rock instrumentalists IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE will kick off their first round of dates of the new year. Beginning tonight in Boston, Massachusetts the band’s (((Win-Tour 2017))) excursion will wind through five states and eight venues, with additional performances to be announced in the coming weeks.

IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE:
1/04/2017 O’Brien’s Pub – Boston, MA w/ Rope Trick, Kind, Sun Drifter
1/05/2017 Needful Things, LLC – Dover, NH w/ Rope Trick, Green Bastard, Cain
1/06/2017 Darkside Records – Poughkeepsie, NY w/ Rope Trick, River Cult
1/07/2017 The Cobra Club – Brooklyn, NY w/ Rope Trick, River Cult
(INN:IS birthday party!)
1/08/2017 Aurora Providence – Providence, RI w/ Rope Trick, River Cult. Minibeast
1/14/2017 Snug Harbor Bar And Grill – New Paltz, NY w/ Shadow Witch, Geezer
1/15/2017 Kung Fu Necktie – Philadelphia, PA w/ Rope Trick, Pneumagon
1/18/2017 Arlene’s Grocery – New York, NY Ode To Doom Series w/ Somnuri, Heavy Traffic, St. Bastard

IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE will be touring in support of their Our Birth Is But A Sleep And A Forgetting full-length released via Small Stone last year. Recorded, produced, and mixed by Rick Birmingham at Castle Alamut and The Tin Roof Studios and mastered by Chris Goosman (Acid King, La Chinga, Solace, Lo Pan, Freedom Hawk etc.) at Baseline Audio, the intoxicating, six-track offering is available worldwide on CD and digitally.

Stream and order the record at the official Small Stone BandCamp pageHERE.

Gushed The Hudson Valley Almanac Weekly of the offering, “There are certain kinds of psychic transport only attainable by lingering on a drone or a single pattern long after the modern mind has expressed its desire to move along, and that place is where INN:IS lives but this band has become nothing short of masterful at the art of the narrative arc as well, and that’s important for an instrumental band. Jams that transfix live can just bore in the studio if a band is not taking its storytelling responsibility seriously.” “Our Birth Is But A Sleep And A Forgetting is a surprising little journey through the psychedelic cosmos of the stoner and ambience world,” wrote Apochs.net. “IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE does a superb job casting various settings… leaving the listener at their mercy through soothing astral voyages with or without the aid of hallucinogenic drugs of some kind. Between solid musicianship like what’s found on ‘The Beard Of Macroprosopus’ and the emotionally charged sensations felt on ‘Across The Luster Of The Desert Into The Polychrome Hills,’ it’s plain to see that this three-piece is not your everyday instrumental act.” “Beaming in from cosmic depths with six tracks…Our Birth Is But A Sleep And A Forgetting offers sonic immersion and atmospheric scope in kind with a patient, hypnotic front-to-back flow that adds rich tonality to what guitarist Kevin Halcott, bassist Tommy Guerrero, and drummer Michael Lutomski accomplished their first time out,” offered The Obelisk. “Parts may have been born of improvisations, but the finished product doesn’t feel like a collection of jams. Rather, a series of interconnected pieces correctly positioned to guide the listener through this aural expanse. Spiritualism, contemplation, philosophy, space itself – all of this seems to be in play for IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE.” Outlaws Of The Sun concurred, “The album sounds incredible through-out. The production is first rate as you feel emotionally connected to the music from the very start. Our Birth Is But A Sleep And A Forgetting is simply an album that will not only be considered as one of the year’s best instrumental rock albums but perhaps one of the best albums of the year.” Added More Fuzz in their year-end review, “The name of the band gives two clues about their music, first that it’s space (rock), believe them, they know. Second, its length suggests post-rock influences, and there’s definitely some post vibe in the way the songs progress smoothly towards their apex, with noisey melodies becoming gradually faster and angrier through time. You’ll probably feel a drone aura also, because this trio knows to take its time to do it right. Don’t worry, you won’t have to do a thing, just lay back in this comfy capsule drifting through the cosmos.”

Guitarist Kevin Halcott and drummer Michael Lutomski founded IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE early in 2010. By that Fall, Tommy Guerrero had joined on bass and their first EP arrived in October 2011. East Of The Sun & West Of The Moon featured three epic instrumental pieces that set the tone for what to expect from IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE. Positive response came in virtual and physical realities, and the band set about honing their craft, averaging about fifty-sixty shows a year.

Momentum carried IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE straight into their first LP, 2012’s Bowing Not Knowing To What, self-released with the help of successful crowdfunding raising $5,000 to press CDs and vinyl. It was this album that caught the attention of Small Stone Records. A series of roadblocks and personal setbacks fowlloing that release album set the tone for their second album, the soon-to-be issued Our Birth Is But A Sleep And A Forgetting.

In moldy warehouses, grimy basements, and the dusty backrooms of pizza shops, the psychedelic drone trio channeled new material and worked tirelessly to craft the songs that would become a definitive offering. It became a full-time task. Our Birth Is But A Sleep And A Forgetting rings both familiar and fresh. Longtime fans should have no trouble getting down with the heavy grooves and climaxes of these sonic journeys, but the band has pushed into dreamier territories as well. The long wait to share this very personal and powerful album is finally over, and IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACEis ready to get back on the wave and ride it forward.

Isaak Announce European Tour

Italian heavy rockers Isaak will launch a European tour on Feb. 13 in support of their new full-length, Sermonize (review here). That record came out on vinyl through Heavy Psych Sounds back in November and has a CD due shortly (like this week) on Small Stone, and finds the four-piece nailing down thick heavy rock roll and a vibrant energy that has come to be their defining element. This will be, as I recall, their first Euro tour for the album, and they go having recently brought aboard Gabriele Carta as their new bassist.

If you haven’t heard it, the album was streamed in full here when it was reviewed, so I’ve got that player below if you’d like to dig in. Other info and tour dates follow from the PR wire and the social medias:

isaak european tour

***ISAAK*** Tropical Disease European Tour

Born from the ashes of Italian heavy rock four-piece Gandhi’s Gunn, it didn’t take long before ISAAK signed a worldwide deal on US label Small Stone Records, who reissued their ass-kicking debut “The Longer The Beard The Harder The Sound” in June 2013. Inspired by the big ass riffages and raw energy of leading heavy rock outfits such as Clutch, Orange Goblin or Torche, ISAAK have the knack for assembling the heaviest-sounding licks with a rip-roaring attitude that can only make you raise a fist up in the air while rocking out in the pit.

With a freshly signed deal on Heavy Psych Sounds Records, ISAAK released their sophomore album “Sermonize” on vinyl this past November, which will be followed by a CD release on February 6th via Small Stone Records.

Ready to bring their Heavy Rockness all around Europe.

Bio:

Are you ready?

ZUN: Two New Videos Posted

ZUN: Ambient Desert Rock Trio Uniting Current And Former Members Of Kyuss, Ides Of Gemini, And Yawning Man To Release Burial Sunrise LP This March Via Small Stone; Two New Videos Posted

In an age when the underground is dug up and paraded, commoditized, cheapened and discarded seemingly on a weekly basis, guitarist Gary Arce remains a genuinely under-appreciated craftsman in heavy rock and roll. As the six-stringer for Yawning Man going back three decades, he’s one of the principal architects of the sound born in California’s sands and known commonly as desert rock. His contributions have been pivotal in the creation of a style no less American than Delta Blues and no less imitated worldwide, and with ZUN’s Burial Sunrise, set for release via Small Stone Recordings March 25th, he not only reaffirms the breadth and vitality that has made his work so essential, but builds on it in expansive and vibrant ways.

The core trio of ZUN is Arce and vocalists Sera Timms (Ides Of Gemini, Black Mare, Black Math Horseman) and John Garcia (Kyuss, Vista Chino, Slo Burn, etc.). Arce plays bass and lap steel on Burial Sunrise as well, and he and Garcia and Timms are joined by drummers Bill Stinson (Chuck Dukowski, Yawning Man) and Harper Hug – the latter of whom also recorded the album at Thunder Underground Studios in Palm Springs, California. Mario Lalli (Fatso Jetson, Yawning Man) also contributes bass on a track, adding to the fluid, jammy feel that pervades the vast soundscapes conjured. Timms and Garcia divide lead-singer duties among Burial Sunrise’s six cuts, with Garcia lending his signature croon to “All That You Say I Am,” the brooding “All for Nothing,” and the drifting desert ode “Nothing Farther,” while Timms brings her ethereal, otherworldly presence to “Solar Days,” “Come Through The Water” and “Into The Wasteland,” the last of which might just be the album’s signature piece, seeming to mirror the wide-ranging, sandy thematic of “Nothing Farther” in bringing the desert – a place too often wrongly thought of as dead – to life in vivid colors and warm tonality, but pushing even further into an uncharted reach.

Lose yourself in the visual accompaniments to “Into The Wasteland” and “Nothing Farther” featuring the Doors’ Robby Krieger on electric sitar below.

COVER

Burial Sunrise Track Listing:

Nothing Farther
2. Into The Wasteland
3. All For Nothing
4. Come Through The Water
5. All That You Say I Am
6. Solar Incantation
Known for forming and contributing to projects like Ten East (with Brant Bjork), Dark Tooth Encounter (with Lalli, Stinson and Scott Reeder), The Sort of Quartet, Yawning Sons (with Sons Of Alpha Centauri), and more, Arce brings a style that is inseparable from desert rock. For the partnerships he’s made in ZUN and for the scope of the album, its laid-back feel and pervasive exploratory sensibility, Burial Sunrise might just prove to be a landmark in his discography as well as the beginning of a new era of his work, continuing to reshape the genre he helped create in the first place in a manner that, like the sands themselves, seems to remain separate from time despite the chaos all around.

Burial Sunrise was mastered by Chris Goosman (Acid King, Dixie Witch, Solace, Sasquatch et al) and will see release on CD, digitally and limited edition vinyl on March 25th via Small Stone Records.

Watch Abrahma’s New Video ‘An Offspring To The Wolves’

French stoner rockers Abrahma have just unveiled the video for their new song ‘An Offspring To The Wolves’, taken from the upcoming album ‘Reflections In The Bowels Of A Bird’, and you can watch it right here…

The album is the follow-up to the band’s 2012 debut ‘Through The Dusty Paths Of Our Lives’, and they’ll be touring Europe pretty extensively in support of it, including a debut appearance at the revered Roadburn Festival.

Guitarist and vocalist Seb Bismuth had this to say about the song:

“‘An Offspring To The Wolves’ is a deeply symbolic song that needed a powerful video, but we also wanted to avoid clichés and tawdriness. The Phantasma Company made it possible and the result is beyond all our expectations. We hope you’ll like it as much as we do, and enjoy this new except off ‘Reflections In The Bowels Of A Bird’.”
